Statement of Heritage Significance:
Architecture/Environment:
Skeleton remains of the hull of a paddle steamer destroyed by fire. Located in the Darling River between the stations of Moorara and Polia, only visible during low river.
History:
The ‘Rodney’ was set alight by striking shearers. The boat was carrying non-union shearers north to Tolarno Station. The remains of the steamer is a clear reminder of the turbulent confrontations surrounding the many shearers strikes of the 1890’s which significantly interrupted the pastoral industry which dominated the Shire.
