Wentworth Shire Council is pleased to announce the successful completion of the Dawn Avenue Open Space and Public Shared Way in Gol Gol.

This project was delivered with the support of the NSW Government’s Resources for Regions (Round 9) programme. Since 2012, this initiative has provided vital infrastructure to regional communities, and the Dawn Avenue project represents a significant investment in the social and economic prosperity of the Gol Gol area.

Project Outcomes

The upgrade has transformed the area into a functional, natural landscape, featuring:

  • A professionally landscaped drainage basin.
  • New grassed areas for community recreation.
  • A public shared way designed for safe, inclusive access.

Your Feedback is Required

To fulfil our government reporting obligations and evaluate the success of this project, Council is seeking immediate feedback from residents. Your input is essential in helping us understand how the space is utilised and will inform future strategic land planning and subdivision developments in the region.

Public Exhibition – Draft Flood Study

Draft Wentworth Flood Study

Wentworth Shire Council gives public notice of the exhibition of the draft Wentworth Flood Study (combined Riverine and Major Overland Flow Study). The purpose for the Wentworth Flood Study is to define the nature of both riverine (Murray and Darling River flooding) and local catchment type flooding at the urban centres of Wentworth, Dareton, Buronga and Gol Gol.   

Council will be conducting two drop-in sessions for the community, held on Wednesday 11 February 2026.

  • Wentworth Visitor Centre Conference Room, 10am to 1pm.
  • Midway Community Centre Function Room, 3pm to 6pm.

A short presentation will be made by the consultants drafting the flood study at both sessions. The community is welcome to drop in at any time throughout these sessions, to have their questions answered.

The following documents will be exhibited on engage Wentworth & Surrounds and in Council Administration offices:

The exhibition documents will be on display from Monday 22 December 2025 to Wednesday 18 February 2026.

If you wish to make a written submission, either by email, by council website, in person or post, submissions are to be received by 5:00pm, Wednesday 18 February 2026. Any submissions received may be made public unless a request to withhold is made.

Dareton: school zone safety works near Coomealla High School

Dareton: school zone safety works near Coomealla High School

Transport for NSW will relocate school zone signs and paint new line markings around Silver City Highway and Tallawalla Road, Dareton, from Monday 8 September to Friday 12 September 2025, weather permitting. Working hours are 9.30am-2.30pm, Monday to Friday (no weekend work planned).

The works include new static and flashing school zone signs and posts, plus fresh line marking, including “dragon’s teeth” to help alert drivers to slow down. These improvements aim to enhance visibility of the school speed zone and improve safety for students and pedestrians.

Temporary traffic changes will be in place during work hours, including lane closures and reduced speed limits. Please slow down, follow traffic control directions and drive to conditions. Traffic control will assist pedestrians through the work area if required.

Wentworth Services Expo 2025: Linking Our Community with Service Providers

Wentworth Shire Council is pleased to announce the upcoming Wentworth Services Expo, to be held at the Midway Community Centre (3 Midway Drive, Buronga) on Thursday 17 July 2025, from 12pm to 2pm for the general community.

This important event is designed to foster connection, collaboration and resilience by bringing together residents, community service providers and emergency services personnel in a shared space of learning and engagement.


What to Expect

This year’s Expo features a dynamic program of activities for both professionals and community members:

Morning Networking Session (Private session for WSIG and emergency services)
A focused opportunity for Wentworth Shire Interagency Group (WSIG) members and emergency services personnel to connect and collaborate, strengthening local partnerships that support our community.

Community Event: 12pm–2pm
All residents are invited to attend the main Expo event from 12pm to 2pm, featuring:

  • Free Community Lunch – Enjoy a complimentary catered lunch while connecting with others in a relaxed setting.
  • Interactive Displays – Engage with local service providers offering health, wellbeing, education, family support, and emergency services.
  • Entertainment – Delight in performances from Listo Trapeze Co. and test your reflexes with Laser Force.
  • Event Programme – A printed schedule will be available on arrival, outlining the day’s activities.

Wentworth Shire Council is inviting community members to provide feedback on the recently upgraded Wentworth Library, located at the Wentworth Visitor Centre, 61 Darling Street, Wentworth.

In 2020, Council received funding from the NSW Government through the Public Library Infrastructure Grants Program. This support has helped enhance and modernise the library’s facilities to better meet the needs of our community.

As part of Council’s reporting obligations to the NSW Government, we are seeking input from library users to help evaluate the success of the upgrades and identify any opportunities for improvement.
