Japanese Encephalitis Update

JAPANESE ENCEPHALITIS UPDATE – 26 October 2022

Mosquitos can spread Japanese Encephalitis. It is a rare but serious infection.

Protect yourself from mosquitos by:

  • Wear loose and light-coloured clothing with closed shoes while you are outdoors
  • Avoid staying outdoors at sunrise and sunset
  • Apply insect repellent on skin that contains DEET, picaridin or oil of lemon eucalyptus
  • Use insecticide sprays and mosquito coils
  • Cover windows and doors with insect screens
  • Remove containers with water outside your house where mosquitos can breed

CALLING ALL WENTWORTH, CURLWAA & POMONA RESIDENTS & BUSINESS OWNERS

Here’s your chance to WIN!

We are encouraging all Wentworth, Pomona & Curlwaa residents and businesses to put up their Christmas Lights before Saturday 26 November and take part in our ‘Christmas Light Trail’ with the top three homes or businesses winning a prize!

We will be distributing ‘Christmas Light Trail’ maps at our Wentworth Lights Up event on Saturday 26 November for the local community and visitors to follow the trail.

If you would like to participate and have your house on the trail map as well as be in the running to win a prize, please email events@wentworth.nsw.gov.au by 5pm, Friday 18 November.

Single Use Plastics Ban

SINGLE-USE PLASTICS BAN FROM 1 NOVEMBER 2022

From 1 November 2022 certain single-use plastics like straws, cutlery and plates will be banned in NSW.

Single-use plastic items and packaging make up to 60% of all litter in NSW. The single-use plastic ban will prevent almost 2.7 billion items of plastic litter from entering the environment in NSW over the next 20 years.

Swimming Pool opening delayed

DARETON & WENTWORTH SWIMMING POOL UPDATE – 18 October 2022

Due to the unseasonal rain the region is experiencing, the opening date for both pools has been rescheduled to Sunday 6 November – one week later than anticipated.

Contractors are currently working at Wentworth & Dareton swimming pools undertaking upgrades to the lighting and power infrastructure.
