WSC Statement on the resignation of Greg Evans from Council

Wentworth Shire Council acknowledges the resignation of Greg Evans from his position on Council.

The NSW Electoral Commission has advised it will now engage a Returning Officer based at its head office and conduct a count back election.

The seven unsuccessful candidates from the December 4 Local Government Elections are now eligible to apply to be considered in the count back process.

This will occur at a time set by the Electoral Commission.

The following statement can be attributed to Wentworth Shire Council Mayor Tim Elstone.

“We thank Greg for his efforts representing the community over close to six years since his election as a Councillor and wish him and his family all the best for the future.”

Community Grants – Donations, Contributions and Grants

There are two types of financial assistance that Council provides to groups and organisations:

1. Fee Waivers (Up to $2000) – We are accepting requests under this program all year round.

2. Financial Assistance Program Grants – Any other Grant requests under the Financial Assistance Program will be referred to Council for a resolution. It is important to note that the decisions about whether to grant an application request rests totally with Council and cannot be delegated to Council staff.

Changed traffic conditions on Wentworth Bridge

Motorists are advised of changed traffic conditions on Wentworth Bridge next week for routine maintenance work.

Work to test and adjust the bridge deck support tensions will be carried out on Wentworth Bridge, over the Darling River, to provide a stronger and safer bridge.

Work will be carried out between Wednesday 15 June and Friday 17 June from 7am to 5pm, weather permitting.

Lane closures, traffic control and a reduced speed limit of 30 km/h will be in place for the safety of workers and motorists.

There will be intermittent delays of up to 15 minutes crossing the bridge during work hours.

Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions, allow extra travel time and follow the directions of signs and traffic control.

Transport for NSW thanks motorists for their patience during this time.
