Early Delivery of Your New 3-Bin Kerbside Collection System
Cleanaway is rolling out Wentworth Shire’s new waste bins ahead of schedule. While the 3-bin kerbside collection service officially commences on 5 October 2026, residents and businesses will begin receiving their physical bins and initial equipment over the coming week.
What is arriving at your property
- 1 x 240L Food and Garden Waste bin (lime green lid)
- 1 x 240L Recycling bin (yellow lid)
- 1 x kitchen caddy (for daily food scraps) and a roll of 150 Council-approved compostable liners
Please do not fill your new bins or place them on the kerb yet.
The first collection is on 5 October. Until then, please store these new bins in a safe location and continue using your existing general waste bin as normal.
Cleanaway will soon apply a red general waste sticker to your existing dark green-lidded bin to align with new state-wide standards. Once the new service commences, Cleanaway will not collect any dark green-lidded bin unless it has a red sticker applied.

Because this roll-out is early, Halve Waste educational materials are still being finalised. In the coming weeks, you will receive a comprehensive pack containing your specific collection calendar and fridge magnets outlining exactly what goes in which bin.
Service commencement overview
Your regular collection day will not change. When the service launches, the fortnightly rotation will operate alongside your weekly general waste collection:
- Week 1 (5–7 October 2026): Food and Garden Waste and General Waste
- Week 2 (commencing 12 October 2026): Food and Garden Waste and Recycling
Why are we moving to a 3-bin service?
Currently, valuable recyclables and organic waste are lost to landfill. This system supports regional sustainability and meets the NSW Government’s 2030 mandate for organics recycling. With the new system:
- Sorted recycling is turned into new products, reducing the need for virgin materials.
- Food and garden waste is composted locally instead of producing methane in landfill.
- Less waste goes to landfill, helping the Shire manage rising costs and extend landfill life.

New Statewide Community Participation Plan comes into effect
The NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure has finalised a new statewide Community Participation Plan, which will come into effect on Tuesday 1 September 2026.
The Statewide Community Participation Plan replaces the Wentworth Shire Council’s current Community Participation Plan. It has been introduced to standardise public consultation requirements and exhibition timeframes for planning functions across all of New South Wales.
Residents and stakeholders are encouraged to familiarise themselves with how they can participate in planning decisions that affect their local area.
While Wentworth Shire Council will continue to engage with the community on planning matters relevant to our local area, public exhibition periods and participation requirements will now be governed by the Statewide CPP.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics team will be at the Wentworth Show on Saturday 29 August between 11:30am and 2:30pm.
The team will be available to assist in completing the 2026 Census.

Wentworth Transfer Station – Green Waste Drop-Off Closed
Please be advised that the green waste drop-off area at the Wentworth Transfer Station is temporarily closed due to wet and unsafe ground conditions.
All other waste disposal areas at the facility remain open for public use. Council apologises for any inconvenience.
