Night Works – George Chaffey Bridge

MONDAY 4 MAY – THURSDAY 7 MAY (8:00PM – 4:00AM)

Motorists are advised of changed traffic conditions around the George Chaffey Bridge over the Murray River between Mildura and Buronga, as essential maintenance is carried out.

Work includes asphalting of two sections of the NSW side bridge abutment. Night work will be carried out between 8pm and 4am from Monday 4 May to Thursday 7 May, weather permitting. Works will involve a single lane closure, traffic control and a reduced speed limit of 40 km/h for the safety of workers and motorists.

Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions, follow the directions of signs and traffic control and allow up to 10 minutes additional travel time during night work.

Community Notice: EnergyConnect Scheduled Maintenance

Elecnor Australia, contracted by Transgrid, is undertaking scheduled maintenance for the EnergyConnect project.

  • When: Works will take place between Saturday 2 May and Wednesday 13 May 2026. Operations will occur Monday to Sunday from 7am to 7pm, including public holidays, weather permitting. These times fall outside standard approved hours to ensure the activities are carried out safely and to minimise community disruption.
  • Where: Maintenance will be carried out on the 330kV line from the South Australian border to the Buronga Substation, NSW, as well as at the Buronga Substation itself.
  • What to expect: The community can expect to see elevated work platforms (up to 70 metres in height), trucks moving equipment between sites, and additional light vehicles.
  • Traffic advice: No road or lane closures are required, but there will be an increase in project-related vehicles during this time. Motorists are encouraged to remain aware of changing conditions, drive safely, and allow additional travel time if required.
  • Managing impacts: The project team will make every effort to minimise noise, vibration, and dust. Mitigation measures include maintaining machinery, turning off equipment when not in use, fitting equipment with noise-minimising devices, and utilising water carts on unsealed roads to suppress dust.

2026 Farrer By-election: Information for Wentworth Shire Residents

A by-election has been officially called for the federal electorate of Farrer. Voting is compulsory for all eligible, enrolled voters residing within the Farrer electorate.

Wentworth Shire Council encourages all residents to review their voting options and plan ahead to ensure their voice is heard.

Alternative Voting Options

Postal Voting If you are unable to vote in person, postal voting is available. Applications for postal votes are currently open and must be submitted to the AEC by 6pm on Wednesday, 6 May 2026.

Accessible Voting Voters living with a disability can cast their vote via post or can vote with assistance at a polling place. Telephone voting is also available for individuals who are blind or have low vision.
