Get Ready for NSW Food Waste Mandates: Free Support for Local Businesses
The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) has introduced new laws requiring businesses and institutions that sell or handle food to separate their food waste from general waste streams.
Starting in stages from 1 July 2026, these mandates will require larger waste-generating businesses to act first. Diverting food waste not only ensures regulatory compliance but can also help businesses save on waste disposal costs and improve daily operations.
Free Workshops and Support
To help local businesses prepare, Wentworth Shire Council and the Riverina and Murray Joint Organisation (RAMJO) are providing free online workshops and tailored support. Funded through the NSW EPA Business Food Waste Partnership program, this assistance is highly recommended for businesses and institutions in the hospitality, aged care, and childcare sectors.
What the Workshops Cover
The online sessions are designed to build awareness of the state government mandates and provide practical compliance strategies:
Upcoming Online Workshop Dates
Book your free workshop via RAMJO
If you would prefer to host an in-person workshop for your organisation, please email admin@ramjo.nsw.gov.au to enquire.
Additional 1:1 Support and Bin Trim Assessments
Following the workshop, a RAMJO facilitator can work one-on-one with your staff to evaluate your current setup and assist with separation logistics. As part of this support, RAMJO can conduct a Bin Trim assessment. Facilities that complete this assessment may be eligible for equipment rebates to help offset the costs of new separation infrastructure.
