Dareton community called on to comment on draft strategy
Dareton community members are invited to have their say on their town’s future with two community pop up sessions planned as part of an exciting Wentworth Shire Council draft strategy.
Council will host the two sessions to publicly exhibit the draft Our Town, Our Future – Dareton Revitalised strategy.
These sessions will be held in front of the IGA Supermarket in Tapio Street, Dareton on Wednesday 17 March from 4:00pm until 6:00pm and on Wednesday 24 March from 8:00am to 10:00am.
The draft strategy will be on public exhibition from Saturday March 6 until Friday 9 April 2021.
The document will be available for viewing via the Public Exhibition page (under Council on the main menu) on Council’s website www.wentworth.nsw.gov.au or alternatively copies of the document are available for viewing in person at the Dareton Library in Millie Street, Dareton.
Wentworth Shire Council Mayor Susan Nichols said community input was vital to help shape strategies for our towns and villages.
“The people who know best about what our towns need are those who actually live in those communities,” Cr Nichols said.
“So I hope residents respond well to the draft strategy and its exhibition.”
The purpose of the draft strategy is to establish a vision for Dareton that enables the township to be revitalised and rejuvenated whilst ensuring that future development is well planned with adequate provision of services.
The initial preparation of the draft strategy focused primarily on the use and development of urban land for residential, commercial, public open space and service provision purposes.
It also identifies and briefly assesses key sites that have potential for new use and development.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions throughout 2020 meeting with key stakeholders and the community was not permitted so a community survey was distributed throughout Dareton via local organisations and groups.
The responses received provided important and relevant information which have largely contributed to the content of the draft strategy.
All interested persons and organisations are invited to review the draft strategy and to make a written submission by email or post.
All submissions are to be received by no later than 5.00 p.m. Friday 9 April 2021.
If an objection is made, the grounds of objection must be specified in the submission.
Any submissions received may be made public unless a request to withhold is made.
