Litter facts:
Roadside litter is a serious and unnecessary problem. The Protection of the Environment Act 1997 gives local government the power to fine those caught depositing litter from vehicles.
The fees are as follows:
- $60 for littering with small items such as bottle tops and extinguished cigarette butts
- $200 for general littering, lit cigarettes and littering from vehicles
- $375 for dangerous littering such as breaking glass
