Wentworth Moves to Level 2 Water Restrictions
Friday, 9th October, 2009

Wentworth Shire Council has been informed that it is now in a position to decide the level of water restrictions.

The reason is that improved water availability in the Murray Valley has allowed NSW to increase its high security allocation to 97% of entitlement.

The Mayor Margaret Thomson said that the 97% allocation meant that water restrictions can be lifted.  “We are moving to Level 2 now in case further restrictions are placed on us later in the year.  Council held an extraordinary meeting to determine its position to provide clarity for the residents of the Shire.”

Council has been monitoring the water situation monthly and this good news means that residents can water outside, including lawns.

Council maintained a responsible position to the decision by restricting the hours of watering to 12 hours per week on any day between the hours of 6pm and 10am preventing watering during the hottest part of the day.
