Roads & Traffic

The Wentworth Shire Council has an extensive network of local and regional roads which consist of:

  • 47km footpaths and sharedways
  • 82km of kerb and gutters
  • 1691km unsealed local roads
  • 253km sealed local roads
  • 173km unsealed regional roads
  • 195km sealed regional roads
  • 16 bridges and major culverts

The Council also maintain 217km of State Highway which consists of: 
  • Silver City Highway (SH22)
  • Sturt Highway (SH14)

All unsealed roads are open.  

The following Roads, boat ramps, reserves remain closed due to flooding:

Boat Ramp at Wentworth

Ski Reserve Boat Ramp at Wentworth

Dareton Sandbar

Twin Isles Road

Unsealed road condition report will be re-issued only when unsealed road conditions change.

Persons driving on closed roads will be subject to fines and may be charged for any works necessary to rectify damage.

Scheduled Roadworks

Council would like to update ratepayers and residents on the works that are ongoing, subject to weather conditions and unforseen circumstances.

o   Darling Lane – Road work and storm water

o   Dareton Boat Ramp Area – Kookaburra Drive – Road realignment and car parking upgrade

o   Low Darling Road – 4km road upgrade in the vicinity of Garston Road

o    Between Bligh Street and Pine Road - From Friday 15 October until Monday 24 October 2016 there will be changed traffic conditions on Wood Street between Bligh Street and Pine Road whilst the raw water main along Wood Street is being upgraded. Vehicle access will be available for local residents only and detours will be in place for other traffic.

Council requests that you observe speed limits that have been put in place and the directions of traffic controllers.

Road Permits

Road Occupancy Application Form 
Required for the interruption or occupation of any area within the road reserve. Generally referred to as “Special Events”, partial or full closure when interfering with access or movement flows of the public. Generally refers to interference with pedestrians, cyclists, vehicles, public transport  or property access.

To be completed by anyone wishing to conduct any kind of works that may affect council assets such as road, footpaths, sewer, drainage and water supply. Items include, roadworks, nature strip works, footpaths, water tappings, any excavations etc. Main items required are copies of proposed works diagram and/or description, traffic management plan/s, public liability certificate of currency ($20M minimum)

This form has been prepared as a guide in relation to legislation, in particular, the Local Government Act and Regulations, the Roads Act 1993 as amended, Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, OHS Act 2000 and Regulations 2001.
