STATEMENT OF HERITAGE SIGNIFICANCE

Architecture/Environment:
A rectangular timber dwelling with a high hip bellcast roof clad with iron sheeting, extending over a wrap around verandah supported by timber posts. The interior walls are lined with fluted iron sheets. The structure is situated on the eastern bank of the Great Anabranch. Many other buildings including kitchen and workmans quarters were removed to Nulla Nulla Station at Lake Victoria, as part of the shearers quarters.

History:
Bunnerungie was the first homestead built on the frontage of the Great Anabranch. The property was originally part of Lake Victoria Station. The land was taken up by Crozier in the early 1860’s. Ben Chaffey held the property for a short time. During his term of possession he fenced the property with netting and unsuccessfully attempted to construct a water pipe to irrigate the land without river frontage.

Recommendation:
Encourage restoration.
