STATEMENT OF HERITAGE SIGNIFICANCE

Architecture/Environment:
The three adjacent dwellings located on Warakooo are constructed of bricks made on the property. The oldest and main homestead, perched on a rise, has an iron clad roof and a separate concave verandah roof with light panels. The verandah, now mostly built in is supported by chamfered posts. The iron lace valance brackets and roof cresting are likely later additions. The other two dwellings built in 1914, have gambrel roofs and separate roofs over wrap around verandahs supported by turned and chamfered posts. Recent occupants have substantially altered the interiors of all buildings.

History:
The property was originally hold by ‘Warrakoo’ Smith who had active interested in local horse racing clubs and the Wentworth Show and Graziers Association. The dwellings were constructed for various members of the Smith family. The property’s recent history is of interest and unique within the Shire. During the 1970’s it was taken up by the Hare Krishna community as a retreat. The Chinese government now own the property as a pastoral training centre for Chinese students.
