STATEMENT OF HERITAGE SIGNIFICANCE

Architecture/Environment:
A square weatherboard dwelling with gambrel roof clad with corrugated iron sheeting. The small roof gables have louvered vents, and are adorned with timber finials. The building was once encircled with a wrap around verandah, now demolished. The interior walls and ceilings are lined with patterned pressed metal. The now derelict dwelling is located on the Western banks of the Anabranch, adjacent to the current Tara Downs homestead.

History:
Wilpitara acted as an outstation of Moorna Station until taken up by Bashman. The existing dwelling replaces a pine slab hut, constructed in 1886 now demolished.

Recommendation:
Encourage restoration, including reinstatement of the verandah.
