The ANZAC Fun Run & Walk is back!
On Sunday 27 April, the Wentworth District RSL and Wentworth Shire Council will be holding its 8km fun run and walk.
After a recess of 12 months, Wentworth Shire Mayor, Cr Margaret Thomson, is thrilled to announce the return of the event for 2008.
“It is a great community event and it looks like it will become a fixture on our local calendar,” the Mayor said.
The run/walk is sponsored by the Coomealla Memorial Sporting Club and the Council.
The run/walk is 8km long, the same distance that the diggers were to achieve on the morning they landed at Gallipolli.
The start time is at the civil hour of 9am and entry is $10 for adults; $10 for a school student team (up to five competitors); $5 for children under 12 years of age or $20 for a family.
The event is totally off road.
The race will be followed by the traditional delicious breakfast supplied by the Wentworth Mainstreet Events Committee ladies with a choice of hot foods including eggs, bacon and pancakes with toppings or the cool taste of fresh fruit and yoghurt with muesli, all at very reasonable prices.
Even if you do not run or walk, come along to Fotherby Park Wentworth to watch others who do. Have breakfast, talk to people. This is a community event so come and support the local community.
For those Mildura residents – make a day of it, attend the breakfast, enjoy a healthy leisurely walk, visit Wentworths many attractions, and end the great event by having lunch at the Coomealla Club on the way back to Mildura.
Remember – all finishers receive a medal!
Entry forms are available from Wentworth Shires head offices in Wentworth, the Shires Libraries at Wentworth, Dareton and Buronga, the Telecentre at Pooncarie and the Wentworth Visitor Information Centre.
All proceeds from the event will be donated to aid the work of the local RSL.
All enquiries should be directed to Jill Davidson at the Shire on 5027 5002.
