Wentworth Shire's Sister City - Azai

As a result of the merging of the Council’s former Azai Sister City and Biwa towns into the city of Nagahama, a proposal to dissolve the previous Sister City relationship was agreed to by both Councils.

Mayor Nobuya Kawashima and Council’s Mayor Margaret Thomson both agreed that each Council should continue to support the student exchange program that is currently undertaken between Azai Junior High School and Coomealla High School. Mayor Kawashima also indicated that they consider it is both possible and hopeful to expand the exchange program by urging participation of other junior High Schools in Nagahama, centering on the exchange between Coomealla High School and Azai Junior High School.
