| State of the Environment (SoE)Wentworth Shire Council is proud to present its latest State of the Environment (SoE) report.
Commissioned by the Murray Region Organisation of Councils group, of which the Shire is a member, the report represents a review and record of the status of the 'environment' for our area. The report is also intended to provide a public record of the activities of government, industry and the community in protecting and restoring the environment. SoE reports do not stand-alone and should be integrated with environmental management and strategies. The principle SoE report by a Council for the year ending after each election of the Councillors must be comprehensive and cover the eight environmental sectors of land, air, water, biodiversity, waste, noise, Aboriginal heritage and non-Aboriginal heritage. Although each council in NSW is required to prepare and lodge a SoE report, the Department of Local Government encourages reporting at the regional level. Nine councils within the Central Murray Region of NSW have opted for the regional approach to SoE reporting under the umbrella of its peak body the Murray Region Organisation of Councils (Murray ROC). The Councils involved in this SoE report are Balranald, Berrigan, Conargo, Corowa, Deniliquin, Hume, Jerilderie, Murray, Wakool, Wentworth and the recently created Greater Hume (the majority of the former Culcairn, Holbrook and Hume local government areas).
