Council Public Information Meetings

Land and Water Separation

Three recent community consultation meetings, called by Council to highlight the issues surrounding the separation of land and water for rating purposes, had been extremely “beneficial” for both the Shire and residents.

Mayor, Cr Margaret Thomson, said the positive outcomes from the forums had been two-fold.

“For the community there is now a much better understanding of the issues surrounding the impact of land and water separation and for Council, the community had imparted a lot of valuable information for Councillors and managers to consider in terms of short and long term planning.”

The Shire hosted the meetings at Buronga on April 26, Dareton on April 30 and in Wentworth on May 1.

The meetings, the Mayor said, “conveyed important information about the issue of water and land separation, provided details about capital projects and provided information on the Management Plan and future considerations on water restrictions”.

“It was also a good opportunity for residents to ask questions,” the Mayor said.

Eight people attended the Buronga meeting while there were 19 people at Dareton and 23 at Wentworth along with Councillors and Council’s senior management team.

Shire general manager, Peter Kozlowski, said “notes were taken at each meeting, including the questions raised by residents” and the information gathered would be used by Councillors and Council staff when planning for the future.
