Youth Forum to be Convened

Wentworth Shire Council has been meeting with representatives from schools in the Shire to discuss plans to convene a youth forum later this year.

Mayor, Councillor Melisa Hederics, said that she was passionate about youth issues and has been part of a number of discussions. “Over the last few months I have been working on a proposal which could see a youth forum held in the Shire later this year.”

The Mayor went on to say that she outlined her vision in her recent discussions with Adrian Piccoli, Member for Murray. “My meeting also raised the inevitable question of possible State funding to support any proposed activities.”

In the first instance ongoing discussions will be held with the principals of all schools in the Shire. Mayor Hederics outlined her proposal, which includes further consultations and a Council youth forum in late 2017 under-pinned by guest speakers. “However, this proposal is in its infancy and further detail will be presented to Council in August for its endorsement,” she said. “Supporting young people living in the Shire is one of the key objectives of Council’s four year Delivery Program, and this year we are committed to developing a youth support program in conjunction with other agencies.”
