Wentworth Shire Council Local Strategic Planning Statement

Wentworth Shire Council has prepared a shire wide draft Local Strategic Planning Statement (LSPS) in collaboration with the Chief Planner’s office and the Western Region Office of the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment.

Division 31 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 requires Council to prepare an LSPS and conduct public exhibition in accordance with the Act and the Community Participation Plan. The Act also requires Council to review the LSPS every seven (7) years.

The purpose of the LSPS is to ensure that Council establishes a twenty (20) year vision for land use, identifies values and specific characteristics that should be preserved and is equipped to manage change in to the future.

The draft LSPS identifies and addresses planning and development issues at a strategic level and provides a framework for managing the Shire’s economic, environmental and social needs for the next twenty (20) years.

The LSPS is currently on public exhibition. The document will be available for viewing from 23 November 2019 to 10 January 2020 at the following locations (during normal operating hours for each facility):

  • Wentworth Shire Office,  26-28 Adelaide Street, Wentworth
  • Wentworth Shire Civic Centre, 61 Darling Street, Wentworth
  • Council Libraries:
        - Short Street, Wentworth
        - Millie Street, Dareton
        - Midway Centre, Midway Drive, Buronga

Community drop-in sessions will be held at the following locations:

  • Midway Centre (Meeting Rooms 1 and 2) - Thursday 5 December 10.00 am to 2.00 pm
  • Dareton Library (Senior Citizens Room) - Tuesday 10 December 11.00 am to 2.00 pm
  • Pooncarie Town Hall – Wednesday 11 December 11.00 am to 2.00 pm
  • Wentworth Civic Centre (RSL Meeting Room) - Thursday 12 December 10.00 am to 2.00 pm
