Farmers Urged to Report Storm Damage

1 Dec 2016 9:01 AM -

Member for Murray, Adrian Piccoli, is urging primary producers, including horticulturalists, to report any damage caused by the series of recent severe storms.

Mr Piccoli said the storms earlier this month produced winds of up to 100 km per hour, heavy rain and hail the size of golf balls.

“Our farmers have been hit particularly hard, with damage to crops, fruit trees, fencing, vehicles and other farm infrastructure,” Mr Piccoli said.

“Western region Local Land Services has staff out in the field contacting affected primary producers to ensure information is being assessed and mapped properly.”

Farmers should report all storm-related damage to their Local Land Services Office on 1300 795 299.

“This information will then be collated into a report to help determine what relief and recovery assistance can be made available, for example low interest rate loans and transport assistance,” Mr Piccoli said.

“This week I will spend time inspecting the damage and talking to impacted landholders.”
